So it’s finally here! After much anticipation The Chronic Dev Team has released their Untethered Jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1. They have packaged the new untethered jailbreak into Absinthe 2.0 and it is available for both Windows and Mac OS so make sure to choose the correct version when downloading. The jailbreak works for any iDevice running on iOS 5.1.1 and it also works on the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 running on iOS 5.0.1 and 5.1. I personally updated all of my iDevices to 5.1.1 and then continued with the jailbreak, I recommend you do the same, unless you rely on an unlock!

Supported Devices on 5.0.1 (9A405), 5.1 (9B176) and 5.1.1 (9B206)

• iPhone 4 (GSM + CDMA) and iPhone 3GS
• iPod touch 4G and iPod touch 3G

Step 1: Update your iDevice to the latest iOS firmware (5.1.1) in iTunes.

Step2: Once you’re iDevice is running on iOS 5.1.1 download Absinthe 2.0.

Download: Absinthe for Windows

Download: Absinthe 2.o for Mac OS

Step 3: Launch Absinthe 2.0 and you’ll be introduced with a small window

Step4: Plug your iDevice to your computer and Absinthe will automatically detect what iDevice you’re trying to Jailbreak. When detected, Hit  the “Jailbreak” button.

Step 5: That’s it! The rest of the process is done automatically. Give it 5-10minutes for the entire process to finish.

Unlock your iDevice and open up Cydia, you’ve successfully jailbroken your iDevice running on iOS 5.1.1!

 

Oh boy am I disappointed! So a few days ago I received a GorillaPod Tripod from Amazon and I was completely dissatisfied with what I got. I needed a little tripod for my GoPro Hero 2 so I figured what better tripod than a GorillaPod tripod, right? WRONG. As soon as I took it out of the box one of the legs came apart into two pieces so I attached the leg back on and continued to test out the product. When I attached my GoPro to the tripod the legs gave out as if the weight was too much to handle. I might be at fault here and possibly the GorillaPod I received was defective but regardless the experience was annoying and highly upsetting. I will be making another purchase and trying out a bigger GorillaPod so hopefully this time around I won’t be disappointed with such a reputable company such as GorillaPod.

I also received an Opteka Pistol Grip and this time I wasn’t disappointed with my purchase. The Opteka HG-5 handgrip stabilizer is the ideal accessory to shoot or record smooth and stable shots with your camera. Overall it performs like it’s intended to work and hasn’t given me much of a problem besides the wobble that I mention in the video attached. So I’ve finally got my hands on my own personal GoPro and of course I had to get the latest model, the Hero 2. In the past I’ve thought about sending a camera into space but I didn’t have the right type of equipment, until now! Well, before I get ahead of myself I’ll just try something a little less amazing. It’s been almost 2 years since I gave up paintball due to a broken ankle but now I’ve gotten back in the game and can’t wait to get some footage with my new GoPro. For now I just have the unboxing but I’ll be shooting video with the GoPro this weekend at the PB field and should have some videos out by next week. Until then, enjoy the unboxing.

A few days ago my sister asked me to help her with a school project that dealt with the upcoming Earth Day. She wasn’t too sure what she wanted to make the video about so I gave her a few ideas and after hearing about Stop Motion, she decided on going with that route. I’m glad to see that kids are becoming more and more involved in “Going Green” and this was a really creative way to spread the word. The topic of her video deals with Recycling and she feels that if everyone recycled it would make the world a better place to live in.

I will be making a tutorial later this week on how to create the stop motion effect. Make sure to check back for that video.

So there’s been a lot of times when I try to export and upload my videos before I head to work but exporting takes longer than expected and I can’t upload my video until after I get back from work. I have found a solution for my issue and that is, Screens for iOS devices. Screens is a remote VNC app that works with any iOS device that’s running iOS 5.0 or later. Now I can leave for work while my video is exporting and upload my video from work. Although Screens is a little more expensive than other VNC Client Apps it is still worth the money due to Screens Connect. Screens Connect is a iCloud based system that allows you to connect to your computer from your iOS device with just a simple sign on. Screens is also the easiest, most friendly VNC client out there for iOS devices.

A few years ago there was an app in Cydia called vWallpaper and this app allowed you to use a Video as your ringtone instead of a regular Audio ringtone. I remember using vWallpaper back when I had my iPhone 3G on iOS 2.20 but I think it became incompatible once I got my iPhone 3GS on iOS 3.0. Well the good news is that a new app has been introduced in Cydia and it’s called VUZIQ which allows you to do the same thing with a lot more options. One of the biggest things that attracted me to this app was the option to use YouTube Videos as a ringtone! If that’s not cool, I don’t know what is!

The apps interface is very slick and super easy to use. Everything that you need is integrated into the app including social network integration. You can use the video ringtones on any regular phone call or any FaceTime call. Individual video ringtones can also be assigned to specific contacts.

How to install:

Step 1: Open Cydia

Step 2: Search for VUZIQ

Step 3: Once found, view description and continue to Install

Step 4: When installation is complete, Cydia will ask you to Restart your Springboard. Respring and open Vuziq.
