So the iPhone Dev team has finally released an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1! pod2g found an exploit in iOS 5.0.1 a few weeks ago and on December 22nd he forwarded his findings to the iPhone Dev team so that they could incorporate his findings into their software and then release it to the public. Redsn0w has been updated to 0.9.10b1. This Jailbreak is only compatible with A4 Chip iDevice. This includes the iPhone 3G, iPhone 4, iPad 1, and iPod Touch 4G. The iPhone 4S and iPad 2 are NOT supported.
Please note: If you are already on a tethered 5.0.1 jailbreak please follow this link for an easier way to Untether your current jailbreak- Untethered Jailbreak 5.0.1 using Corona 5.0.1 Untether
For everyone else using a fresh copy of iOS 5.0.1 please continue with this guide:
How to Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 using Redsn0w 0.9.10b1
Step One: Download Redsn0w 0.9.10b1- OSX or Windows
Step Two: Once you have finished downloading, open Redsn0w 0.9.10b1
Step Three: Make sure your iDevice is plugged in to your computer using your Apple 30-pin USB cable and then Click Jailbreak
Step Four: Turn your iDevice completely off making sure you don’t disconnect your iDevice from your computer. You will now be prompted to put your iDevice into DFU mode.
Step Five: Follow the on screen instructions to put your iDevice into DFU mode.
If you get an error message telling you that you have unsuccessfully entered DFU mode refer back to step Five, otherwise continue to the next step.
Step Six: Once you have successfully entered DFU mode Redsn0w will give you a few options to choose from, make sure Install Cydia is checked and click next.
Step Seven: Redsn0w will now finalize the jailbreak. There are a few steps that will be completed automatically but will take some time so please be patient. Don’t freak out if you start to see a whole bunch of codes scrolling on your iDevice, this is normal so don’t unplug anything.
Step Eight: Once Redsn0w is done completing the jailbreak, your iDevice will reboot. You can now fully enjoy an Untethered Jailbreak! Disconnect your iDevice from your computer and reboot again just to verify the untethered jailbreak.
You’re done, Congrats!
